Paddy's Day in New York

New Beginnings

I'm very excited to announce that I've accepted a teaching position at Clarion School in Dubai, beginning August, 2018. Clarion is a Bank Street affiliated school bringing high quality, progressive American education to the U.A.E. I feel privileged to be joining their adventure!

After doing a bunch of Moth slams, I participated in a reading series, 650 Where Writers Read. It was one of those rare events where you enjoy listening to the work of others, as much as sharing your own. My first published piece, "Mr. Clean", included here, thanks to Edward McCann and 650 Where Writers Read! Support spoken (and written) word!

Essays and storytelling

I am writing essays, and doing storytelling at The Moth, and at my gigs.

Roses and Victory is a Winner!

Happy to report that "Roses and Victory" was #3 on the Folk DJ Charts for February! I was the #3 artist, top solo artist, and my song, "The Librarian", the #7 single. Thanks to all the DJs who played me!

Also from the new CD; "Movie Star" made The Alternate Root's top ten songs of the week! Me and Lucinda Williams, that's who! Woo hoo!

Patty Griffin Tribute, March 15th, at Rockwood Music Hall

It's March 2014!

Wow. It has been a long time since I updated my news page, and lots has happened. I won the 2013 Kerville Song Contest along with 5 other great writers - Adrienne Lenker, Paul Sachs, Ellis, Eric Bettencort, and Ed Romanoff. We did a tour of Texas in October, 2013, and it was amazing. Unfortunately, I did the tour on crutches as I had a serious bike accident just weeks prior, but the folks in Texas, and my fellow winners, supported me in fulfilling my obligation. I so didn't want to miss out on a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I was grateful.

I had a song of mine, Snow Day, included on a compilation CD called Just One Angel 2.0. It is the second in a series curated by Christine Lavin and Andrew Ratshin. The song was #4 on the Folk DJ charts for December 2013, and we had a great show at The Duplex Cabaret in Greenwich Village. I've also done a couple of Concert Window shows with Christine, and they were a blast. She is so much fun, and so supportive.

Lots of gigs, and a trip to Kansas City for Folk Alliance in 2014...Coming up is a show at Rockwood Music Hall. Patty Griffin fans check it out.

Formal Showcase Artist NERFA 2012!

I am blown away with the news that I have been selected as a Formal Showcase Artist for the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance Conference, 2012! Just last year I was diving in the deep end and running my own guerrilla showcase at my very first NERFA! How cool is that?

I have also been gratefully busy with my beloved Chicks and the Joni Mitchell Blue tribute, playing World Cafe Live in Philly to standing room only, girls. Oh yes. We rock the house, and we have a blast with the support of our favorite roosters.

Amy Speace with be covering one of my newer, as yet unrecorded songs, "Stark as Stone", on her upcoming CD! It's really exciting to be covered by someone of her stature. She is a beautiful singer and songwriter, and she has really established herself as a woman to be reckoned with in the folk world. Thanks, Amy!

Falcon Ridge Emerging Artist!

I've been selected as an emerging artist this year, and it's totally awesome. Thanks to the judges. It feels like a big leap. Last year was my first time going to Falcon Ridge, playing with my peeps at Tribes Hill and Pirate Camp, and listening to my friends who were emerging. I feel lucky and so happy to be included like Oliver with the Artful Dodger and his band of pick-pockets. Consider yourself one of us! Don't mind if I do.

There are 24 fine artists/acts all together and they include my talented and friendly friends, The YaYas and Gathering Time. Go team!

Should be a fun festival all around if it is anything like last year.

By the way, I had a fabulous time June 2nd at the NERFA one-day conference held in Boston where I got a standing ovation with my set. I know I'm bragging, but it was pretty cool, and such a great opportunity for to be seen and to make connections with presenters and fellow musicians.

Okay, enough about me. Let's talk about you. What do you think of me?

Seriously, I hope you are well and keeping up with the ever-changing weather we're having. Who knows what a season is anymore. I'm just glad it's warm.

Love and hugs,

2012 Southeast Regional Folk Alliance Conference Official Showcase Artist!
